Why one price does not fit every crawl space
Two homes on the same street can need completely different work. One has a dry dirt floor and just needs a vapor barrier. The next has standing water after every storm, wet insulation and a failing sump pump. A quote for the first job would be far too low for the second. That is why any company that quotes a firm price without seeing the space is guessing.

Size and access
More square footage means more material and more labor. Access matters just as much. A crawl space with a wide opening and room to move is faster to work in than one that is tight, low or has ductwork and plumbing in the way. Crews spend more time on their bellies in tight spaces, and that shows up in the price.
Condition of the space
A clean, mostly dry space is the cheapest place to start. If there is old plastic to remove, debris to clear, wet or fallen insulation to replace, or rot to address, that cleanup is part of the job and part of the cost. How much water is involved
Liquid water is the biggest variable. If water enters the space, it has to be controlled before the space is sealed. Which services are in the scope
A vapor barrier alone is the lightest option. Full crawl space encapsulation adds wall coverage, sealed seams and sealed penetrations. A dehumidifier adds equipment and setup. Each layer solves a different part of the problem, and a good contractor tells you which ones your space needs and which it does not.
It is fine to ask for the scope in stages. Some homeowners start with drainage and add encapsulation later. What matters is that the work is done in the right order.
